PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS, (December 16, 2008) - Legacy Bancorp, Inc. (the “Company”) (NASDAQ:LEGC), the holding company for Legacy Banks (the “Bank” or “Legacy”) announced today that the Bank had entered into a Purchase and Assumption Agreement with The Bank of Western Massachusetts (“BoWM”) to acquire certain assets and assume certain liabilities of a full-service branch office of BoWM located in Haydenville, Massachusetts (the “Office”).

Lee, Mass. – Legacy Banks will hold a free workshop geared toward renters who would like to work toward purchasing a home. The program will take place on Wednesday, November 19 from 5-7 p.m. at the Legacy Banks Lee Office at 76 Park Street.

Legacy Bancorp, Inc., the holding company for Legacy Banks, today reported net income of $564,000, or $0.07 per diluted share for the quarter ended September 30, 2008, which represents an increase of $44,000, or 8.5%, from net income of $520,000 in the third quarter of 2007.
