PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS (April 27, 2009): Legacy Bancorp, Inc. (the “Company” or “Legacy”) (NASDAQ: LEGC), the holding company for Legacy Banks (the “Bank”), today reported a net loss of $792,000, or $0.10 per diluted share for the quarter ended March 31, 2009, which represents a decrease of $1.2 million from net income of $417,000 in the first quarter of 2008. The decrease was primarily the result of an increase in the loss taken on investments deemed to be other-than-temporarily impaired (OTTI), and an increase in the provision expense for loan losses.

Legacy Banks will host will host a free money management workshop on May 6, 2009 at The Immigrant Center at the First Baptist Church, 88 South Street in Pittsfield. Two identical sessions taking place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. The program, titled “Managing your money in tough economic times,” will be presented in both Spanish and English depending on need.
